When God calls you out of the boat and onto a faith-journey you have two choices to make…sink or walk.
I shared with a friend that I’ve been living safe, and her response was unexpected yet it’s exactly what I also needed to hear. She said, “I needed to get roughed up.”
She didn’t know about the emotional and physical abuse, the long healing that’s brought me to today, she only knew that I hadn’t stepped out of the boat to experience life God’s way, wildly free.
When God calls me out onto the waters I learn to dance right into the unknown stepping only where He steps and when He steps so life becomes fluid with Him. I’m not a very good dancer in fact, I’m fearful of dance floors let alone an ocean.
I use to pretend be braver, but somehow the backlash of not good enough has left me limping long, almost stagnant. And I’m worried that maybe I’ve missed the boat altogether that maybe its too late to be called out onto the ocean and dance.
Yet in the moments when I feel like I’m standing sacred on holy ground, my heart gets in the way and becomes too hard-pressed in finding myself, and hope begins to fade and fall from my fingertips.
I’m beginning to see how my words and life of living safe don’t seem to match up and that others are getting tired of shallow excuses.
God’s timing isn’t necessarily better tomorrow just because today doesn’t appear perfect enough. Putting God in a box robs me of not seeing a miracle first-hand because I’ve expected Him to do the miracle first.
Faith is easy when the miracle is first. How much more would faith be if I lived out the miracle?
“If you don’t go all the way with Me, through thick and thin, you don’t deserve Me. If your first concern is to look after yourself, you’ll never find yourself. But if you forget about yourself and look to me, you’ll find both yourself and Me.” Matthew10:38-39 The Message
God doesn’t promise us perfection in life, its’ in the imperfect He’s able to work in us, its the refining makes us more like His Son.
Today I’m writing for a book coming out August 1 called The Cure for the Perfect Life ~ 12 Ways to Stop Trying Harder and Start Living Braver. Here’s the link where you can get the book and begin to live outside of the boat of perfection and dance wildly free. http://www.thecurefortheperfectlife.com
